- Please help us remember our Cats -
Good Morning!
The adoption fee for the meerkat is $50.00. Adoptive parents receive a certificate of adoption, a fact sheet about the animal and a window decal. Your name will also be prominently displayed on the Zoo’s Adopt-an-Animal Parents’ Board.
The money raised from the Adopt-an-Animal program helps cover the grocery bill (totaling approximately $200,000 a year!).
Sincerely, Jennifer Fields

The meerkat is a member of the mongoose family.
A group of meerkats may travel up to four miles in a single day.
Meerkats can safely eat scorpions because they're immune to the venom.
Meerkats emit at least 10 different calls, including a threatening growl and several different alarm barks.
Meerkats forage for food near their burrows, turning over stones and rooting in crevices. Though their favorite food is a tasty insect, meerkats aren't picky: they'll also eat small mammals and reptiles, scorpions, centipedes, worms, eggs, tubers, and roots.
Gestation period of 11 weeks
2 to 4 in a litter
Young are born sparsely furred and blind, opening their eyes at two weeks
In the wild, their lifespan is approximately 10 years, while in captivity it is about 17 years.
